Reflection, rationale, and approach: I thought about many things while developing Real Yarn. Who is my user? What do they need from Real Yarn? How would they want to be talked to? What do they want to see?
Through my research, I deduced that my user is someone with a creative spirit who is interested in many different fiber arts, from crochet and knitting to weaving and needlepoint. They could be a total beginner, but they could also be the most expert knitter of all time. They could be a teenager or they could be in their sixties. The content should be written and designed with these key details in mind. The design should be bright, engaging, and fun without feeling overly trendy. The copy should be helpful and accessible, but not condescending. Many users in my research noted that they often felt blown off when sharing they were more into crochet than knitting. I wanted to ensure that my site did not reflect any of these biases. With a holistic approach, I wrote and designed this space to be a creative and welcoming place for everybody. And of course, easy to navigate!
